Basford Tennis Club decided at the annual meeting last night to maintain their activities for the coming season, and to make those who are in the Services honorary members of the club.

Mr. Cecil J. Noke, the President presided at the meeting, which was attended by representatives of all sections of the club. The President was re-elected and other appointments renewed were Mt. P. T. N. Forrester (Vice President), Mr. P. G. Walker (Hon. Treasurer) and Mr. Alan C. Swann (Hon. Secretary).

The Management Committee will consist of Mrs. Noke, Mrs. Munroe, Mrs. Preece, Mr. A. P. Ford, Mr. J. B. Haden, Mr. A. J. Lewis, Mr. H. B. Mawdesley and Dr. J. T. Turner.

The accounts for 1939 were passed as satisfactory, and it was stated that the coming financial year would be a difficult one for the club.

PRESIDENT'S REVIEW

In his review of the past year, Mr. Noke said Miss C. M. Jones won the Ladies' Singles Championship of Staffordshire. He commented on the improvement in the match results, and added that, owing to the war, the final stages of the county competitions were cancelled.

Speaking of the effects of the war on the club, the President said that a number of members of both sexes were in the Services, and it had been decided that they should become honorary members for the duration of the service. Mentioning the growing activities in the club apart from tennis, the President spoke of the social amenities and the outstanding success of the bridge section.

He expressed the hope that new members would be obtained to fill the gaps caused by the departure of members for the Services, particularly in the men's section. He said that the Committee were determined to keep the club going, whatever happened, and had under consideration a programme which would be made as attractive as possible under existing conditions. They would endeavour to maintain interest at the highest pitch, and would keep the competitive spirit alive, possibly by arranging a series of friendly matches to replace the usual list of fixtures.
