TENNIS PLAYERS FOR 48 YEARS

Presentation at Basford

A general meeting of the Basford Lawn Tennis Club was marked by a presentation to Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Heatley, who have been playing members for 48 years. Mrs. Heatley has now resigned as a playing member and was made a life member of the Club. The presentation was made by the President (Mr. J. Wilfred Shirley) on behalf of the members, and it consisted of a handsome silver coffee tray.

During her membership, Mrs. Heatley was a county player for 20 years. She played two years for Staffordshire in 1903 and 1904, and then 18 years for Cheshire, including the year in which they won the inter-county competition. In 11 years, out of 37 Cheshire County matches, she played in 35.

The President congratulated the winners of the various club trophies during last season. They were: Men's Open Singles (Wenger Cup), A. E Walker; Women's Open Singles (Wenger Cup), Miss R. K. Huntbach; Mixed Doubles Handicap (Shirley Cup and a new Heatley Cup, presented by Mr. and Mrs. Heatley), C. J. and Mrs. Noke; Ladies Junior Doubles, Mrs. C. J. Noke and Miss Ebrall.

The following will be the officers for 1932: President, Lieutenant-Colonel T. L. Wenger; Vice-President, Mr. H. B. Mawdesley; Hon. Treasurer, Mr. A. R. P. Piercy; Hon. Secretary, Mr. W. E. Williamson; Hon. Auditor, Mr. J. C. Bladen; and members of the Management Committee, Miss E. M. Bladen, Mrs. C. J. Noke, Mrs. N. J. Wenger, Mr. P. T. N. Forester, Mr. N. F. Gibbons, Mr. H. T. Heatley in addition to officers.

The courts will be open on Thursday March 24th.
