BASFORD WIN TENNIS CUPS

Basford men's and women's teams made a clean sweep of the Staffordshire inter-club lawn tennis competitions at the week-end.

Basford women's team, weakened by injury and the ineligibility of two first-team players won the Joseph Cup at Stafford Hough courts on Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Albert.

Playing in the senior team for the first time was Elizabeth Ford, who two years ago won the under-15 trophy in the annual Basford tournament.

Albert were also the other finalists, and the victims, in the men's Alsop Cup competition, Basford winning 6-3.
