BASFORD'S TENNIS TROPHY DOUBLE

For the fifth consecutive year, Basford won the Staffordshire Lawn Tennis Association's Alsop Cup for men and on the same day made it a notable double by winning the Joseph Cup for ladies for the third year in succession.

The Alsop Cup was decided at the Stafford club's courts, Basford meeting Reedswood who had reached the final for the first time.

Basford, playing forceful and relentless tennis, were coasting to victory when rain brought play to an end for the day with Basford leading 5-0.

In the final of the Joseph Cup, played on the Burton Manor courts, Basford were 4-2 ahead when rain began to fall heavily. The players continued in the downpour however, Basford running out winners by 5-3.

Trophies

The President of the Staffs. L.T.A.., Mr. E. J. S. Slater, presented the trophies at the Burton Manor club to the Basford men's captain A. L. Roddy, and to Mrs. W. Barber, in the enforced absence of Mrs. G. Gibbons, the Basford ladies' captain.
