Successful Invitation Dance

There is no more enjoyable social event of the season than the annual invitation dance of the Basford Tennis Club. Friday evening's function at the King's Hall, Stoke, was the fifth to be held there and the most successful of a long series in the club’s history. There were some 250 dancers present, and the whole proceedings passed off delightfully, thanks in no small measure to the excellent arrangements made by Mr. Herbert T. Heatley, who noted as hon. secretary and M.C.

An up-to-date programme of dance music was provided by Mr. J. Hewitt’s orchestra. Mr. F. Bettany, of Burslem, had prepared the floor and carried out the decorations, and the appearance of the hall was further enhanced by the beautiful plants from Hanley Park.

The appointed M.C.’s were Messrs. A. P. Ford. Hubert C. Bladen, A. H. Bladen, Gilbert Howson, D. J. Unwin and T. L. Wenger. The members of the Dance Committee were: Mrs. J. C. Bladen, Miss Gibbons, Mrs. Heatley, Miss Katie Howson, Miss F. Marjorie Parkes, Mrs. T. B. Roberts, Messrs. H. J. Appleton, Cyril Bamford. Hubert C. Bladen, Arthur H Bladen, A. P. Ford, F. M. Grose, Gilbert Howson, Frank C. Johnson, L. H. Jones, E. D. Leigh, J. W. Shirley, Charles E. Walker, G. Ernest Watson and Theo L. Wenger.

The catering was carried out by Messrs. F. Swinnerton and Son.
