Basford Footpath

So the Wolstanton Council decided against the closing of the footpath at Basford, which would have enabled the Basford Tennis Club to construct tennis courts there. I still remain of the opinion that the footpath is not in the least necessary, considering that there is a good road within yards of it. The council appears to have acted under a notion that the working classes would not be pleased at any concession to the middle classes, though they are such large ratepayers in Basford; but I don't at all think the the working classes desired that any such dog-in-the-manger policy should be adopted.
