MISS JOAN FRY AT BASFORD

Delightful Play in a Doubles Game

Miss Joan Fry, of Stone, the brilliant young tennis player who recently defeated Miss McKane and played a remarkably fine game against Miss Ryan, attracted a large "gallery" to the courts of the Basford Tennis Club this (Tuesday) afternoon, when she took part in a match between the ladies' teams of the Basford and Stone clubs.

She was partnered by Mrs. E. D. Leigh in a doubles event, and early in the afternoon met Mrs. Heatley and Miss M. K. Smith. Miss Fry and Mrs. Leigh won fairly comfortably 6-3, 6-0.

Miss Fry's play was a delight to watch. She leaves nothing to chance, and obviously believes in going out for every ball. It was at the net that she excelled this afternoon. There is no doubt she has made wonderful progress, and she is unquestionably a very formidable opponent.

Mrs. Heatley and Miss Smith gave a good account of themselves, but the faster and stronger play of the other pair proved too much for them.
