ANNUAL BALL IN NEWCASTLE

The annual ball, promoted by the Basford Lawn Tennis Club, took place on Friday week in the Municipal Hall, Newcastle. It was a most delightful affair. About 120 persons were present, mostly young people, and as the gentlemen were in the greater number the ladies had partners for every dance. Shirley's Band played choice selection of music in fine time and style. The hall was beautifully decorated throughout, the ballroom being draped in sage green and cream, and decked with foliage plants, and the balcony and grand staircase being richly carpeted and beautifully adorned with palms. The M. C. was Mr. H. T. Heatley, who was most assiduous in his duties, and to whom much of the success of the ball was due. The stewards were: Messrs. A. H. Best, A. P. Ford, N. F. Gibbons, A. E. Ford, F. M. Grosse, C. C. Gibbons, W. M. G. Stocker, and J. Wilfrid Shirley.
