Staffordshire Hard Court Singles

Tennis enthusiasts in North Staffordshire will have an opportunity of seeing the best men players in the County in action next Saturday when, on the courts of the Basford Tennis Club, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the Staffordshire hard court singles for men will be played.

This competition, which has continued throughout the summer, attracted a splendid entry this season, and has been the means of drawing the attention of the County authorities to one or two promising players. The draw for the quarter-finals is:- ("A") E. J. S. Slater (Walsall) v. W. T. Kirkham (Burslem High Lane); ("B") J. A. Moore (Stone) v. S. H. Jones (Wolverhampton); ("C") J. S. Connery (Wolverhampton) v. A. E. Walker (Basford); ("D") J. Lewis v. G. S. Lester (Walsall).

Semi-finals:- Winner of "A" v. winner of "B"; winner of "C" v. winner of "D".

In addition to these competition matches, there will be a series of exhibition matches between prominent County players, and a particularly entertaining afternoon's tennis is anticipated.

The arrangements are in the hands of Mr. A. E. Walker, of the Basford club, who is Hon. Secretary of the competition.

Additional interest will be added to the occasion by reason of the fact that the majority of the members of the Staffordshire team which did so well in Inter County Week at Scarborough, will be playing.
