Four Hard Courts on a New Site

The Basford Lawn Tennis Club have purchased 6094 square yards of land, situate in West-avenue, Basford, as a site for the new ground, and they have entered into a contract with Messrs. W. H. Gaze and Sons to construct four green hard courts, the top dressing for which is being supplied by Messrs. C. E. Ramsden and Co., of Fenton. It is also intended to erect a new and spacious general pavilion to the design and specification of Messrs. Hollins and Jones, architects, of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The site is an ideal one - away from the smoke, with private gardens all round, and an embankment on three sides.

The club for over 40 years has been restricted to two courts. With the increased accommodation it will now be able to increase the membership which will give opportunities to a larger number of players.
