SPARKLING START TO DIAMOND YEAR

BASFORD lawn Tennis Club marked the start of their Diamond Jubilee year on their present site which(sic) their annual dinner at Chesterton Community Centre on Saturday, which raised £400.

Officials are researching the club's pre-1926 history, for it is believed there was a site alongside the Queen's Hotel, Basford at the turn of the century. Some records have been traced back to 1883.
President Mr. John Plumb acknowledged the role of Mr. John Nicholas in junior coaching and felt that the club had achieved a milestone in a period when many tennis clubs had been forced to close down.
